This half day trip is for those who would like to explore a few secluded hidden gems of Lake Taupo’s Western Bays which are mainly only accessible by water.
You’ll meet us at our base in Acacia Bay where we will set off by vehicle to Kinloch (or you can meet us at Kinloch mariner.
On our Western Bays Taster trip, we will depart from Kinloch Marina by boat across the pristine waters of Lake Taupo to the long, sweeping sandy beach of Kawakawa Bay, which is quite different from the rest of the Western Bays.
For those on the unguided tour, Kawakawa Bay is where we will leave you. Jump into the crystal-clear waters or if the weather is too cold, simply have a drink – this is one of the only freshwater lakes left that you can still drink from!
Otherwise, sunbathe on the shore, listening to the soothing sounds of native birds, while taking in the magnificent sight of the Tongariro National Park mountains across the lake. Don’t forget to look out for rock climbers tackling the surrounding cliff faces.
It is now time to gear up and launch your kayaks for your paddle across the bays to the pretty lakeside village of Kinloch. For those on our guided tour, we will take you visit a cave that you are able to paddle right up to.
