We often have many interests in our early years when we are full of energy and eager to explore new things. However, as our lives get busier, we tend to have less time to pursue new interests. According to experts, taking part in hobbies is a vital component of our continual development and enhances our quality of life.

Hobbies allow us to do something fun and challenging outside of work and our daily routines.

Kayaking may be a great hobby to learn as the New Zealand summer approaches. Kayaking will not only challenge you, but it will also increase your body’s general strength, cardiovascular fitness, and while allowing you to take in some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery up close.

Kayaking isn’t just good for your physical health, but it also can help with your mental health as well. Because kayaking is an outdoor hobby, you’ll spend time in nature and natural light has been proven to improve your mood and reduce stress and depression. Here are a few more ways how kayaking can help your overall health and well-being.

  • Increases confidence: When we learn a new skill or knowledge around that topic also grows and so does our self-esteem.
  • Helps build new relationships: Learning something new gives you the opportunity to meet a new group of people who you can build relationships with.

Depending on your interests, Taupo Kayaking adventures have a range of courses available to suit your experience level. For beginners, we suggest starting out with our basic kayak skill lesson.

This is a water-based session that teaches you the basic skills of kayaking and usually is anywhere between two to three hours. After completing this lesson, you will know how to confidently set up, control your kayak, paddle effectively and be confident in rescuing yourself or someone else in the event of a capsize.

Start your new hobby before Christmas and enjoy the beautiful waters of New Zealand this upcoming summer. Learn more about our courses here.
